HOW TO BE THE BEST D.J.
EQUIPMENT
The first thing you need is equipment. Good solid equipment that would not break on you when you are practicing or when you are doing a gig. This is very important because you do not want to be embarrass when you have that gig and you are mixing or scratching a record and something breaks or even the amplifier blows and you are just sitting there with a crowed of people staring at right at you. I would recommend Technique 1200 or 1210 if you like the turntables and if you like the CD turntables I would go with Numark or Pioneer.
PRACTICE AND BLENDING
Now that you have your equipment it is now time to practice and getting familiar with your equipment. In this section you want to know how your turntables feel and how loud you can crank the amplifier and how your speakers sound. You must know how hard or soft can you press on the turntables, because when you scratch some people are heavy handed and some are not. When you have finished all of that you must now began to play your records or CD’s to see if you could blend another song in. Blending is very important because if you have the talent to blend one song with another song then that is half the battle. There are some DJ’s who just blend songs the whole party and that is cool because some party goers don’t like when the DJ’s scratch on the record. To scratch on a record or CD’s while you are doing a party, its all about timing.
TIMING
Timing is very important because you have to know when to scratch and when not to scratch. The perfect time to scratch is on the chorus of a song. But be careful you don’t want to over do it. Some DJ’s will scratch too much so that the party goers will not enjoy there time out dancing. So it is best to keep scratching to a minimum.
CROWED CONTROL
The DJ controls the crowed. The DJ must know how to read the crowed and to know what next song to play to keep the on the dance floor. The song selection is most important because if you play what the majority wants to here and if you play it in the right sequence then you cannot fail. This takes a while for a DJ to obtain this talent. There has been times when I had everyone on the floor dancing and I did not read the crowed right and put on a song everyone disappeared from the floor. Now you have to work twice as hard to get them back on the floor dancing. To be the best DJ some nights are going to be horrible and some are going to be the best night in your life.
WRAP UP
So to be the best DJ you have to have good equipment. You also must practice, practice and practice. Learn how to blend from one song to the next. If you scratch on your records make sure that the timing is right. And last but not least remember that the DJ controls the crowed by the song selection. So if you choose a song that is really hot people are going to dance. But if you choose a song that stinks the crowed will disappear from the dance floor. Remember the best DJ has there ups and downs.
